Mick Gatto claims he was the construction industries ‘Mr. Fix It’

Mick has been investigated by the federal police for reports of corruption in the building industry for extorting and intimidating building companies in Melbourne. He was arrested (with his wife) on the 3^rd of June 2026 for corruption and financial offences.

Construction sub contractors who work on major commercial job sites such as Victoria’s infrastructure ‘Big Build’ and high rise apartment developments would arrange Mick to help them deal with the union (CFMEU) to avoid costly delays on job sites they work on. However, It has been reported that these so called ‘dealings’ with the CFMEU were orchestrated disputes that he arranged to make it so he was an essential commodity to employ. These building companies that paid for Mick’s services include Elite Roads, Cycon Civil, Rangedale Group, Cobild, PLS Labour Hire, and Major Cranes Logistics.

One building contractor stated that if you don’t employ Mick Gatto, then you don’t get to work on Victoria’s infrastructure ‘Big Build’ job site. He also claims that Mick Gatto and the union (CFMEU) would decide on who gets to work or not on certain job sites.

Victoria’s infrastructure ‘Big Build’ is government funded construction works. Construction sub contractors who were working on the job site were charging significantly more money when they’ve engaged Mick Gatto which was coming from Victorian tax payers (on the government jobs). It’s been reported that Mick has made millions of dollars per year from tax payers money over the last few years.

Mick claims his job was working as a ‘mediator’ between the building sub contractor and the union (CFMEU). He also states he’s never stepped foot on a job site and he'd only use his phone in his dealings as a 'mediator'.

In an interview with Karl Stefanovic, Mick admits he had 15 building companies (both union and non union) that where happy with his service. However, Federal police put the pressure on all of those building companies telling them "if they employ Gatto, then they won’t be getting any Tier 1 work or government work”. He also said that because the union (CFMEU) has now undergone a massive change (following the departure of John Setka), his line of work as a ‘meteor’ for building companies is now finished.
