The Liberal Party aims to demolish building code (BCA Volume 2) by squeezing it from a 2,000+ page document to only 80 pages.

Liberal Senator ‘Andrew Bragg’ has promised to slash the BCA Vol.2, 2025 (as well as the housing provisions) from a document (when combined together) that’s over 2000 pages to just 80 pages.
The liberal party wish to impose this change to the Australian building codes as they believe it will dramatically cut costs on new dwellings being built.
It has been reported that due to building code regulations always changing, that this is the core reason newly built dwellings are sky rocketing in prices.
On the other hand, Liberal Senator ‘Andrew Bragg’ just doesn’t get how updating regulations over time has been done to improve housing design.
If Liberal wins the next federal election, building surveyors who issue building permits for ‘dwellings’ be prepared to plan check with a lot more different Australian Standards if the BCA Vol.2, 2025 (as well as the housing provisions) are both shrunk to combine as an 80 page document.

There is cause for Vol 2 to be re-written. It has gone from being a world class document in the 1990's to a shambles. I think 80 pages is a headline grab, but the ever exploding content put into the Vol 2/HPS had to be stopped at some point.
I don't believe they could introduce anymore standards than already exist. Now with the requirement to obtain and enforce all the "secondary referenced" Standards that aren't specifically called up. Plus the new provisions to call up out of cycle AS updated revisions. It seems AS/NZS3500.3 needs an update every 4 years now. Clearly rain falls and crap flushes differently today than it did 4 years ago.

They've seen a problem but not explored it, not consulted the relevant departments like ABCB to understand the history of the NCC. The Senator has a back ground in accounting - not building.
